Shaka Shredders, the First Magnetic “Swaptop” Card Game, Launches in 2020
DOWNEY, CA - January 14, 2020 - Shaka Shredders, the world’s first magnetic Swaptop™ card game rides the waves into retail stores in 2020 as Sunslap Studios debuts its Extreme Sports-inspired Swaptop Card Game featuring funky animal superstars.
Millions of years ago, a meteor made of mysterious shaka stone crashed into the ocean where erupting volcanoes eventually formed a small island known as Shakana. On the island today, animals with gnarly skills known as “Shaka Shredders” tear it up on waves, pavement, powder, and even the clouds, hidden from humans under a mist of protective fog. Players have been extended a special invite to come and coach an extreme sports team of their choice.
To take these radical characters to the next level of awesomeness, Shaka Shredders debuts on patented magnetic Swaptop cards. Swaptop cards empower players with a whole new way to interact with card games by breaking down and rebuilding magnetic cards. Swaptop cards consist of three component cards: A backing (Slate™ card), a top (Slab™ card), and a bottom (Slice™ card) that can be rearranged with others to form entirely new Swaptop cards.
Mix and match these top and bottom cards for a high degree of customizability, adding a fresh dimension to card games. As a bonus, these high-quality cards are durable, crease-resistant, and water-resistant so Shaka Shredders is playable anywhere, anytime. Pool party? Beach day? Bring it on. Play one-on-one or in a free-for-all format with as many players as desired. Each game set contains two decks for two players.
Players act as coach of a 20-Swaptop card Shaka Shredders team they can design themselves composed of characters with unique strengths and weaknesses. The two available decks at launch feature either geeky, technical skaters or goony, school-skipping surfers, but players may trade between decks to create their own blended team. To win over the fans and declare victory, be the first to earn 20 “CHEER” points from the fictional crowd.
Play three types of Swaptop cards against opponents: Tricks, Assists, and Disses. Each is designated by the smaller bottom ability that joins with the larger top Shaka Shredder. Swap in new Shaka Shredders during the game to surprise opponents and increase the value of tricks, add unique assists to trick performances to boost fan appeal, and embarrass rivals by “dissing” them at the opportune time.
“As fun and wild as the characters are, the never-before-seen mechanics of Swaptop cards allow for a really high skill-ceiling,” said Gregory Paul, founder of Sunslap Studios. “Players will pick up the rules quickly, but when they fully realize all the nuances of strategic swapping, the real game begins.”
Shaka Shredders will be available in 2020, but the Kickstarter launches today with a funding goal of $60,000 USD. Each game box includes two decks for two opposing players, but obtaining multiple sets allows for more players to join the fun in free-for-all tournament style. All cards are included in the decks, and there are no blind packages in Shaka Shredders. The last day to pledge is MONTH XX.
